SAFB G70 – The Calm Zone

This is a small room that is tucked away on the ground floor of the Sir Alexander Fleming building (SAFB), available specifically for students with autism spectrum disorders who may need to step away and have a moment to themselves.

The Calm Zone is booked by the BSc Medical Biosciences (BMB) course during term times when teaching in G28 is underway. This means, if you are working in G28 in your course team and feel you would like to step away, G70 will be available to you just down the corridor. We understand that working in a team can be particularly challenging for students with autism and therefore provide this space especially for you!

In The Calm Zone, BMB have provided a box of items that you are welcome to use if you find them helpful. These include disposable earplugs, notepads and pens and fidget toys that may help during times of sensory overload. If you have any questions about this room, please contact the BMB Teaching Fellow, Dr Laura Collopy (l.collopy@imperial.ac.uk), who will be happy to talk to you about your needs from the room and your experience using it.
